gender-based generalizations wrong despite the fact that they are statistically relevant.

It is not that gender-based generalizations are condemned because they are spurious and therefore only when they are spurious. Rather, in order to compensate for the observed tendencies to overuse gender-based generalizations, we treat the use of gender-based generalizations as wrong even when those generalizations are statistically relevant and thus despite the fact that they are statistically relevant.
